Business Model Tool

This tool guides you through different steps to conceive
a project that fits your vision and values, making your efforts viable and lasting.

The tool helps you to explore available options in terms
of technologies and ways to fund your local energy initiatives.

This page is dedicated to the Business Model Tool, which is  a key resource introduced in Phase 3 of the WattWorks  card game.

After having participated in Phase 1, which focuses on raising awareness and building interest in sustainable energy and Phase 2, which allowed to identify suitable locations for solar energy production, Phase 3 provides building blocks which help reflecting on how to ensure your energy initiative has real, long-term impact.

What will you find here?

1. What is the Business Model Tool?

The tool provides a 5-step decision-making process, stimulating reflection on key business questions and guiding the collection of basic information needed to construct a robust energy project and create long-term impact. The tool can be used to discuss key questions like:

  • Which activities should our community focus on (energy savings, energy production, energy storage,..?

  • Which legal entity should we create?

  • What will be our major costs and future revenues?

  • How will we continue to generate value for our custumers
    on the long-term?

The process includes 5 proposed decision-making actions:
« explore and choose », « draw », « collect », « build-up » and « go further» which can ideally be initiated during phase 3 of the WattWorks card game, after having established the energy profile of the future energy community in Phase 1 and having identified potential locations for new energy installations in phase 2.
